That Special Place
Text contribution for installation by Dawne Fahey who photographed my “special place” on the central coast. “I have completed one of two public artworks at the Ourimbah Campus bushland central creek site that is my special place. This work’s process represents a multi-faceted ongoing dialogue that includes; the challenge of making the work including the surroundings a metaphor for Jung’s three phases of initiation (submission-containment-liberation), involving the various stakeholders such as Darkinjung Land Council for permission to create it on their land as well as seeking conversation on the design’s content after finding the area is possibly an Indigenous men’s initiation site, collaborating with forensic clients & staff from Morriset Hospital on horticultural elements, & working with material & budget constraints. Through exploration of these tensions a sense of responsibility, purpose & resolution have led to a wonderful sense of personal connection.” Gosford Regional Art Gallery Gosford
